Okay, let’s get one thing straight…
You are incredible. Let’s end this year and start the new year with that honest reflection. Let that seed plant firmly in your mind, okay? Let it dig in its roots and sprout before you go ahead identify it as a weed that needs to be discarded. I promise you, you will be amazed at the things that will bloom and fruit from this tiny seed if you just give it some sunlight and a little time to grow.
What do you see? An Honest Reflection
Today, before you stare at yourself in the mirror and start listing off the things that you wish to change in the coming year about the place or the person looking back at you, take a moment to look beyond what you see with your eyes. Before you make your resolutions, be brave enough to own the truth that you are incredible. You are not perfect, but no one is; don’t hold yourself up to standards that are unattainable for anyone under any circumstance.
You fumble, you fall, you get banged up, but you are still here, and that is BEAUTIFUL. You have to own the good and wonderful things about yourself before you can improve any aspect of your life that you want to improve. Don’t see the fumbling or the broken pieces as evidence of failure, look to the fact that you are still standing and see courage and strength. Don’t see the errors behind you as mistakes; see them as lessons. For each and every negative thing you see in yourself, give yourself permission to see the positive. Surround yourself with people who will help you shine those parts of you. There will always be people available to help you do that… but you need to see it in yourself first for it to be truly cultivated into something amazing.
You are not alone.
Even if you think you are completely alone in this world, just know that right now as I tap the keys on my keyboard, I am wrapping my thoughts and prayers around you. Yes, YOU. I may not know you, but here in this quiet place where I put my thoughts, I am with you and you are not alone.
You have worth and value and a place in this world that only you can fill.
The place you find yourself in right now is not the final destination, so whether it is a place of joy, sorrow, pain, or struggle, it’s just a pinpoint on your map. You are not your reflection. You are not your job title, education level, or financial status. You are not your struggle, or illness, or failures. You are much, much, more than that, and you are incredible.
