By a show of hands, who else is astonished that next weekend is the LAST weekend in August? You, over there with your hand down- you’re either lying, or if you’re not, then please tell me how to slow the summer down to a nice leisurely pace!
I know that schools have already started in many places throughout the country, but fortunately, I have at least a tiny bit more time with my kiddo before she’s back into a set routine. We have so many summertime activities that have become traditions. One of our favorites, is attending the Dutchess County Fair. There are many wonderful opportunities to teach about farming, raising livestock, history, technology, laws of physics, and of course, rides, cotton candy and carnival games.
If you are headed to the Dutchess County Fair this weekend, which I highly recommend to those in the area, I thought I’d share with you a few of simple tips:
*Bring an empty backpack to carry the inevitable carnival game prizes. (New family rule: if it doesn’t fit in the backpack, pick a different prize. The ginormous ball did not fit in said backpack.)
*Pack some wet wipes and hand sanitizers because livestock are cute and need to be pet.
*Dress the part. So I don’t necessarily take part in this one, but my girl makes up for it every year!
*Make sure to take at least one or two photos! On our way out, we even popped into the Camera Head Photo Booth to get some silly ones of the two of us together.
*Lastly, something I was unaware of until just now- the Dutchess County Fair has an APP for your phone! How great is that?! I’ll definitely be using that one next summer!
What tips would YOU add to the list?
I made a decision this year to leave my heavy hitting camera at home. My shutter finger was a bit cranky because of it, but I did sneak in a few photos with my phone. Below are the results. Don’t forget, you can also follow me on Instagram! (More to come on NY NOW, the HGTV Blogger Block Party, this year’s Cape May trip and the NY Renaissance Fair!)
*This post was not sponsored- just passing along some things that we enjoyed!
