LastShuttleLaunch STS135 KAS 3

Twitter and I are pals.  We go way back… all the way back to October 17th, 2008, in fact.

I was a SAHM to a 15 month old, hanging out with that firecracker, Etsy, and chatterbox, Blogspot, when I first started spending time with the little blue bird.  The instantaneous feed of topics that interested me fit perfectly into my quick paced life as a new mom.  I realized the value of 5 minutes 30 seconds when I was looking information.  We were a perfect match.

FirstTweetKAS

I was quite fond of the little bird, even before I experienced my first #Tweetup.  But then something incredible happened, thanks to a little social media engagement with NASA; I was selected to attend a NASATweetup (now called NASA Social) for the launch of STS-135, which was the final mission for our space shuttle program.

The experience was quite an emotional one, finalizing the end of the shuttle program which I had grown up alongside.  When Atlantis left the launchpad for the very last time, it was as if I was saying goodbye to a childhood friend.  It turns out, that Atlantis was just moving over, and handing the keys to a new start- to a future that will continue to push the limits, expand our need for creative solutions and open our eyes wide with wonder and awe.

Atlantis, since that day, has felt more like an extension of myself in so many ways.  I have taken the lessons, experiences and friendships that were unearthed on that trip, and I have reconnect with a bit of who I was years ago.

So if you have noticed an abundance of photographs, Tweets, and general spacegeek chatter over the last two days, please be aware that each of us that attended the NASA Tweetup were moved in one way or another, and to each of us, this happens to be an anniversary that we will continue to celebrate for years to come!  Don’t believe me?  Take the hashtag #STS135 out for a twirl and feed off of the happy energy that follows!  Another gem to follow: #NASASocial
