Although I am pressed for time today, and cannot write as much as I would like about the Intrepid’s first Tweetup that I was thrilled to attend today, I did want to share with you a few photos that I was able to take at today’s #SpaceFest Tweetup aboard the Intrepid Museum.
The focus today was a private tour of the Space Shuttle Pavilion prior to the museum’s opening in the morning. I’ve seen Enterprise up close during several visits over the last year, but practically having her all to ourselves was such a great treat!
Thanks, Intrepid Museum, for hosting such a great morning! Looking forward to seeing what Tweetups you have in the works for the future!
Our morning started off with a brief tour of Hangar 2 and Hangar 3 of the Intrepid. It is an impressive ship if you have not had the chance to see her in person. |
Enterprise, with her landing gear down. Actual heat shield tiles can be seen upon the flap that is opened when the wheels are down. |
Mark was a fantastic tour guide for the day. Although he kept referring to himself as “just a generalizer,” he knew his Shuttle history! |
Discussing heat shield tiles, and Enterprise’s important role in figuring out what happened with Columbus, and testing theories and ideas to make sure there wasn’t a repeat of that tragedy. |
At a Tweetup, it is perfectly acceptable (and encouraged!) to be on your phone tweeting about your experience! |
Enterprise’ with a Soyuz. It is difficult to image that the Shuttle was the “past” and that the Soyuz is the “present.” |
