Read Time:2 Minute, 19 Second

I’ve tried to fill my world with positive, encouraging words, images and sounds these days. I often read a small book of quotes from Mother Teresa, for inspiration and focus. I squash negativity as soon as it starts to sprout it’s ugly face. I have no room in my world for such things.

Some have thought that I’m trying to suppress anger, deny hurt and turn a blind eye to offenses; but that’s not true. I am human, and these past few months of uncovering lies, betrayals, and hurtful actions has indeed often left me with feelings of anger, pain and bitterness. But, instead of letting that be my story, instead of letting that be my life, I let it go. I let it all go, and decide to cast a different stone across the waters.
We alone cannot change the world, that is true; but our words & actions truly do impact those around us. I look to my daughter, and ask “how do I want her to view the world? How do I want her to view her role in the world?” And that is how I choose to live. I want her to know that she will face joy and pain alike. I want her to know that choosing kindness, compassion and love, even in the darkest days is noble, not naive. I want her to know that in the face of challenges, there is always someone out there that is dealing with greater pain, suffering & difficulty. I want her to open her eyes to the full spectrum of emotions, and embrace it, not fear it. I want her to use her gifts, talents & genuine sweetness to touch the lives of others. So, I cast a stone of love into the waters, and I’m not talking about the romantic kind with roses, fine dining and romantic strolls under the stars. It seems for now, those days are behind me. Instead, the love I give is bigger than that. It’s as small as a smile to a stranger, a kind deed, or words of encouragement during struggles. That kind of love fills the void that has been left behind, and it brings me peace knowing my contribution is something of good.
In each of us, there is something that we can give to others that can create that ripple of change. Whether we choose to react to everyday life with positive or negative energy, that is what we will leave in our wake. Choose wisely. The size of the ripples stay the same, but don’t forget that it is you that is in the center; what do you want to find yourself in the midst of?
I choose love, and I am finding myself in the middle of peaceful waters.
